Sub-Ohm Vaping Explained

Sub-ohm vaping refers to any setup that uses a coil with an electrical resistance below one ohm, which draws more power, heats more liquid, and produces the large vapor clouds associated with direct-lung inhales.

The Short Answer

A coil's resistance is measured in ohms. "Sub-ohm" simply means the coil is rated below 1.0 ohm. Lower resistance lets more current flow, which heats the coil faster, vaporizes more liquid, and produces the dense clouds people associate with sub-ohm tanks.

What It Requires

Sub-ohm setups need hardware built for higher power. That typically means a regulated mod (40 to 100+ watts), a sub-ohm tank with pre-built coils, and a quality 18650 or 21700 battery. It also means a different e-liquid: high-VG juice with low nicotine, usually 3 or 6 mg.

Who It Is For

Sub-ohm vaping is for cloud-focused, flavor-first users who are comfortable with battery safety and who do not need a high nicotine dose. If you are stepping away from cigarettes and still need heavy nicotine, a pod system with nicotine salts is usually a better fit.

Safety Notes

Lower resistance draws more current, so battery selection matters. Always use unwrapped, authentic batteries rated for the amperage your coil will pull, and never carry loose cells with keys or coins.
